On Tuesday 21st, the ASRC held it’s Night Tennis Grand Final and Party Night…

Congratulations to 2017 Premiers ‘String Courtets’ – back to back winners! Their opponents this season were the Racqueteers team (which despite having played in 5 of the last 6 years Grand Finals) only just qualified for the Grand Final this season by pipping Team Grundfos by only three points. Grundfos went on to secure third spot over TBA with Smash and Serve managing to win the 5v6 tussle, thereby handing the wooden spoon to, of all teams, Bushranges! (Last season’s runner’s up!). Go figure that! A wooden spoon team which frankly could have beaten any team, on their night.

Under the sparkle of the ‘fairy lights’, the courtside bench at times looked more like a scene from an Anzac Day movie with bandaged and dying hobbling to the bar to get drinks and ice for the more severely injured. Clearly 2017 had been a tough fought year of attrition with so many players bravely fighting on, some playing with dud hammys, others playing with a broken toe or even a severe cold! Great resilience shown by all.

However, nothing could dampen the festive mood with many Balfours party pie and pasties being consumed along with a generous banquet of food brought by everyone to share. Even Jacobs Creek came to the party courtesy of Lisa and it was also great to see quite a few non players stop past to celebrate the end of season too.

Many thanks to all, I know everyone has had a fun year and we look forward to keeping in touch via a couple of social functions over winter…

Thanks also again to our Late Night Crew and Night Tennis helpers this season with Jos, Leigh, Leith, Lou, Darren, Mark, Shane and many others, all finding ways to chip in and share the clean up and chores etc.
