2015 Night Tennis Grand Final Party Night Wrap Up

Hit & Miss (youth and fitness) defeated Racqueteers (experience, cunning and sledging) to win the 2015 Night Premiership. Congratulations to Will, Pete, Elliot, Betty and Eloise

String Courtets who were unlucky not to finish second during the season, defeated TBA to decide third and fourth place.

Grundfos were missing but their Grundfos Look-a-like team managed to outplay the Sparrows to take fifth and sixth place respectively

Lastly Bushranges were too strong for the Wolfies, giving the Wolfies the undisputed ‘wooden spoon’ for 2015.

Racqueteers’ Team founders and stalwarts of the Night Tennis competition, Pam and Judith both started playing Aldgate night tennis 21 years ago when their sons wanted to play. Their sons were too shy to ask any girls to partner them and so they brought their mums! Well the boys stopped playing in 1995 and Pam and Judith have played the twenty odd years since. This is a truly amazing and dedicated record. Well done to both Pam and Judith and if we can’t talk you into playing again next season – enjoy your retirement and thanks for all the memories.. Once Pam and Judith had a streak of 5 years without winning a game, only to finally win a match (and then laminate the score card) but persistence wins out and Pam and Judith won the entire comp four years ago and have been runners up in the three years since. What a way to go out – on top. All the best ladies…

Much fun and frivolity was had at the after match party.

Thanks to:

1. Jos for running the Canteen and being my right hand woman as ever…

2. Leith Dawes and the Party Company – for festive ballons etc

3. The late night crew (Leith, Leigh, ‘Lou T’, Nardene, Alicia and others) – for your help, fun, nonsense and good company again in 2015

4. Virginia Evans – for organising the trophies

5. Greg Sparrow and Graham Davis. Club Life Members. Thanks for presenting the trophies.

6. Lastly and not least, all of our players. Night Tennis is run for you and you are a great bunch of people. Thanks everyone in our ‘Night Tennis Family’…

Have a safe and warm winter… see you next season!

Justin Nugent from ‘Bird In Hand’ winery and Aldgate Tennis has his hands full and this time it is something to crow about.

Who is that handsome bloke next to Justin? It’s the Adelaide Crow’s Captain, Taylor Walker..

Round of golf? Looks like Taylor was the only birdie on this course today….

Anyway, a crisp glass of local Adelaide Hills wine after a round is par for the course…. and worth more than the two balls in the bush!

Thanks to Bird In Hand – Club Sponsor

Night Tennis Wet Weather Policy

  1. Night Tennis is always on
  2. What if it is raining hard – see point 1.
  3. What if there is lightning/thunder and I have a flat tyre on my car – see point 1.
  4. The courts tend to drain well and so are typically playable even after quite a lot of rain – see point 1
  5. If you feel the courts are unsafe once you arrive, you may conscientiously forfeit if you wish. Nobody is forced to play on damp courts but we do ask that you still come to the courts yourself at 7pm and discuss the situation with your team captain.
  6. Around 6pm-6:15pm on match nights, the Night Tennis Coordinator will make a decision whether it might actually be necessary to override point 1. If the match is to be abandoned all Team Captains will be notified by sms and an email sent to the mailing list. Please monitor your communications.
  7. Who do I call to find out if night tennis is on – see point 1.
  8. It’s after 6pm and it is still raining, should I still come to tennis? – see point 1.
  9. Sometimes the Night Tennis Coordinator may make ‘an early’ call to abandon a match but if you don’t hear anything then please refer to point 1.

Sorry to be so pointed – hope that all makes sense?

PS in answer to the question, are we ‘on tonight’ – see point 1
