Dear Aldgate Night Players,
Just a quick and warm welcome to some of the latest new Tuesday nighters: Shane, Anthony, Shona, Chris, Nardene and Rhonda etc.
The Tuesday Night Season is well underway, we have farewelled some players from last year (several moving out of the area) and welcomed many new players.
It is good to see that Team “TBA” with Leith, Leigh, Lou and Alicia etc have definitely not taken the competition seriously again this season and they all continue to do much of their best work at the bar, (under, behind and on top).
Team Grundfos with Tony, Martin, Tracey, Abbey and Josh remain stalwarts of the competition and Tony fresh from dressing up in the recent Stirling Pageant as an ANZ ATM certainly hasn’t lost his ability to open champagne for the girls.
Welcome to newly arrived local, Anthony Polkinghorne to the Wolfies Team. When asked about his likely tennis ability Anthony declared without hesitation “Oh, I’d definitely be a number one”. No arguments there from his team mates, Sally, Richard and Cooper who have been high fiving each other at their respective demotions…
Team ‘Hit & Miss’ have certainly been a HIT this season with Eloise smacking winners whilst declaring ‘I’ve never played tennis before’. Will, Betty, Eloise and Elliott and a never ending stream of talented players and fill-ins set the court alight each week. Eloise was also heard to say ‘Fill-ins won’t ever be a problem, I’ve got heaps of friends’…
Team Sparrows have also been smoking the court, led by long standing Club legend Greg and more than ably assisted by his bevy of beauties, Kerry, Megan, Maddie and Jess… True to name, they all get up early and their absence at the bar late in the evenings has been noted…
Welcome also to new arrival Shane, who has slotted into number one spot brilliantly to head up the Bushranges with talented new players Shona and Chris and a very old grumpy player called Grant and Paul (of undeclared age).
Team Just For The Fun Of It have tried to confuse the opposition (and the draw) by changing their team name midway through the season. It didn’t work – we still know who you are. The re-birthed ‘String Courtets’ comprising ‘ever speedy’ Sean, ‘ever cheery Lisa’, ‘ever smashing’ Jess, ‘ever absent Andrea’ and ‘ever grumpy’ Graham. Graham was heard to say last week whilst checking his 11pm watch during a tie breaker. ‘I’m just not enjoying this’… It could be the opposition Graham (Racqueteers).
Pam, spiritual leader of the Racqueteers lead again from the front last night (it was her 36th wedding anniversary) and she shared her secrets of a long marriage with the rest of us whilst her lovely husband Wayne read a book at at home… Her total commitment to night tennis on her anniversary was widely acknowledged ie staying back and drinking champas on your anniversary just shows the sort of commitment to night tennis that Jos, Judith and I have come to expect from Pam over the years…
Wednesday Night Casual Tennis is also underway. We have our core group lead by Matt Adams and crew and each week an array of different and new faces. ‘Casual’ tennis means ‘no commitment’ and most players who initially expressed an interest in casual tennis have mastered this idea, with a large number of names on the list but few players actually turning up each Wed.. The courts are currently open for those who want a hit from 7:30 each Wed night but to keep Wed night casual tennis running, be as casual as you like, but we will need regular players! All welcome from 7:30 each Wednesday.
Lastly, some quick admin, this week three (currently nameless) Tuesday night players didn’t pay their $7. (We know who you are because the paid names are ticked off the list). It would be very much appreciated that if you forgot to pay this week that you could fix this up next week. Many thanks…
I’d also like to sincerely thank Jocelyn for all her great work stocking and manning the canteen, finding loo rolls at short notice and for running training sessions on the coffee machine. Thanks again also to the late night crew on Tuesdays who always manage to help out somehow whilst demolishing large quantities of chocolate and alcohol and talking nonsense. Thanks guys.
